Out-of-town Bayonne employees face ax

The Jersey Journal reports:

Bayonne’s non-uniformed city employees who don’t live in Bayonne have until Nov. 1 to move there “or face termination, removal, or discharge,” an inter-office memorandum warns. Police and fire personnel are exempt from any municipal residency requirement by state law.

As long as their living quarters don’t interfere with their ability to carry out the job they’ve attained, what is the point of a residency requirement. The only group of employees that this policy actually DOES seem to make sense for are those uniformed employees who are exempted from it. These are the employees who may be needed at a moments notice, and who must be fresh to work long shifts and then drive home afterwards. City employeesr with a regular 9-5 shouldn’t be required to live here, and further shouldn’t be fired if they do not.

Several charges on James dropped.

Last month former Newark Mayor Sharpe James had several charges place on him that would give me 25years+ in jail. The minor charges will be dropped according to PoliticsNJ.com.

There will be no part two to the Sharpe James trial.

The federal government dropped its additional charges against former Newark Mayor Sharpe James today, saying that they would only use up additional resources for a new trial that wouldn’t likely result in any additional prison time for James.

James was convicted last month on five corruption charges, and faces 10-15 years in federal prison. But he was set to face more fraud charges in a July 8th trial relating to his use of city credit cards to pay for personal expenses, including movie tickets, pay-per-view pornographic movies and body lotions at a hotel.

Not Guttenberg but it’ll do!

Similar to Delle Donna of Guttenberg, Mayor Hussa of Denville is being trial for the same corruption scheme as former Mayor David Delle Donna. Will they share the same faith?

Denville Mayor Ted Hussa is on trial next Tuesday, charged with illegally parking in a handicapped spot. Hussa admitted he was parked in the spot, but says it was just for a few minutes while he was unloading a borrowed car. He’s pleading not guilty and insists that the complaint filed by a South Orange woman is politically motivated. Pat Valva resigned her seat on the Council last month after criticizing Hussa, saying she could no longer handle the pressure.

This is fun

I discovered this Winners and Losers list on PoliticsNJ.com which is very funny at times and very true.

Take a look for yourselves.

PoliticsNJ.com has posted that although Ridgewood Mayor Pfund isnt up for reelection he may lose it if one of the new Commissioners get a large amount of votes.

Ridgewood Mayor David Pfund isn’t up for reelection tomorrow, but he may not keep the mayoral seat much longer.

The town’s five member council, governed under the Faulkner Act, chooses one of its own every two years to become mayor. Pfund has been mayor for four years, and his council seat is not up for reelection until 2010. But with five candidates vying for three seats on the body in tomorrow’s election, Pfund may either step down and allow someone else to take the helm. Or he could try to hold on for reelection at the council’s July 1st reorganization meeting.

No Outrage?

PoliticsNJ.com has posted an article regarding a cartoon of a Jewish Councilwoman from Teaneck.

Just days before the May 13 municipal elections, Teaneck Councilwoman Monica Honis seems to be getting a pass from some leaders of the Jewish community, despite a controversial comment that week suggesting that re-electing her without also supporting her two running mates was akin to sending her “to the gas chamber.” Rebecca Kaplan Boronson, the editor of the New Jersey Jewish Standard, told PolitickerNJ.com that she had no comment on the controversy. Boronson wrote an editorial last month suggesting that a political cartoon may have intentionally sent a subliminal anti-Semitic message. Two others who criticized the cartoon, Rep. Steve Rothman and the New Jersey Anti-Defamation League, did not return calls seeking comment on Honis’ statement.

Double Murphy

Micheal Murphy is getting two salaries but not like the corrupted politicians of Hudson County. He’s doing it the legal way.

Lobbyist Michael Murphy is wearing two hats these days. One Murphy is working as campaign chairman and paid spokesman for Rob Andrews’ campaign for the United States Senate, while the other Murphy is appearing on News 12 this weekend as a supporter of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. And the former Morris County Prosecutor and ’97 gubernatorial candidates boss, Andrews, is backing Hillary Clinton. (Of course, Andrews’ boss, South Jersey Democratic leader George Norcross, has endorsed Obama) And further complicating matters: the guy interviewing Murphy the Obama man is lobbyist Jim McQueeny, a member of Frank Lautenberg’s circle of friends.
